Adelaide Strikers strike quickly After returning stunning figures of 5 for 3 to help bowl Sydney Thunder out for a men’s T20 record low of just 15 in their BBL game on Friday, Henry Thornton joked that he might consider retiring.

Thunder was bowled out in 35 balls while chasing a 140-run target at Sydney Showground. Thornton, 26, was left shocked and amazed following his career-best figures.

Thornton finished the game with the staggering figures of 2.5-1-3-5, the fourth best in BBL history, just days after claiming his previous best of 4 for 20 against Sydney Sixers.

“I feel like I need to retire now,” Thornton told Channel Seven’s host. “I don’t think I’m getting any better. I honestly cannot believe what has just occurred. I believe everyone here is also confused about what is going on. It was incredible.
“We thought [Thunder] bowled really, really well considering what the wicket was doing. And we just figured if we hung in there long enough, we’d get some opportunities. That is incredible. To be honest, I’ve never had anything like that happen in my life.
It’s incredible.” We just assumed that if we bowled on top of the stumps and were crystal clear on what we wanted to do, we’d be in the game. We received numerous nick-offs.

Wes Agar also had a career-high 4 for 6, and wicketkeeper Harry Nielsen took five catches to tie the BBL record for most dismissals in an innings.
After the game, Strikers captain Peter Siddle was also taken aback. He and Rashid Khan were not required to bowl a single ball as the innings was completed in 5.5 overs, the shortest in men’s T20 cricket history.
“It’s quite amazing that I’m actually speaking to you off the pitch because that was quick,” Siddle told Channel Seven. “I had no idea what had just happened.
“Rash [Rashid] has played a lot of T20 cricket, but this is the first time he hasn’t bowled a ball in a T20 match. It’s still quite amazing for the two of us not to be able to bowl a ball. The boys bowled brilliantly.
They did exactly what I said earlier about coming in, being disciplined, and bashing a length, and they reaped the benefits.”
Rashid had only bowled once before in his 358-game T20 career, and both times were in washouts when his team did not bowl.
Former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee, who was commentating on the match for Fox Sports, labeled Thunder’s batting performance as appalling.
“I’m speechless,” Lee said on the show. “It’s appalling when you think about what’s happened for the Sydney Thunder. Excellent bowling, but 15?!”
“I am speechless,” Lee said on the broadcast. “Consider what has happened to the Sydney Thunder. Great bowling, but 15?”
Brad Haddin, Lee’s colleague, and former Australia teammate, described it as embarrassing. “I just spent 24 hours going through match-ups where Rashid Khan is going to bowl,” Haddin explained. “That was unbelievable.
They’ve shown us aggressive fast bowling and incredible catching. And we saw a team that was having a great time out there. Fifteen in 35 balls is simply embarrassing.”
