When did Cristiano Ronaldo start making the “Si” gesture?
Although it appears as though it has only recently become popular, the highest goal scorer for Portugal all-time really started doing it back in 2013.
In a preseason friendly against Chelsea over ten years ago, the player for Real Madrid shone with a brace that helped Los Blancos defeat the Blues 3-1 to win the International Champions Cup.
What does Cristiano Ronaldo mean when he celebrates with a “Si”?
As you might have guessed, it actually means “yes” in its literal sense. And, to be completely honest, there isn’t much more to it. When describing its beginnings in 2019, Ronaldo said:
“When I was playing for Real Madrid, I began to say’si,’ which is Spanish for ‘yes.
Everyone would yell “siiii” when we would win, he said, and I began to say it as well. It was natural, so I’m not sure why.
“I was in the USA when we played Chelsea, and I have no idea where this celebration is coming from. It just came out after I scored the goal. To be honest, it just seemed natural.
